A slip knot is the starting point for everything that you do in knitting. It is the basis of all casting on techniques
1. Wind the yarn twice around the first two fingers of the left hand[ref fig 1 sk].Then bend the fingers so that the two loops are visible across the knuckles.
2. Using a knitting needle in the right hand, pull back thread through the front one to form a loop.

3. Release the yarn from the fingers and pull the two ends to tighten the loop on the needle.This forms the first stitch.
